Registration is now open for Washtenaw Housing Alliance’s The State of Homelessness and Affordable Housing, our fourth annual breakfast and speaker program in recognition of National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week (HHAW) on Friday, November 21st, 2025. This year’s event happens during the WHA’s 25th anniversary.

Join us for breakfast and a morning of community conversations and networking critical to our collective movement to end homelessness. We will be joined by speakers from several organizations who are integral in providing food and health care access to those in Washtenaw County. They will share how they are responding to the current challenges caused by federal cuts to their programs and the impact their services have on housing security for many in the county. We will also take time to celebrate the 5th anniversary of the City of Ann Arbor’s Affordable Housing Millage. Known in 2020 as Proposal C, its passage marked the most significant expansion of affordable housing in the region in over 40 years.

This education and advocacy event will be held in-person at Washtenaw Community College – Morris Lawrence Building. We welcome homeless service providers and affordable housing developers, business partners, government officials, funders, and community members to join us and hear more about the state of homelessness and affordable housing in Washtenaw County. Registration and other event details will be available soon.

At last year’s event, we were joined by keynote speaker Christine Haley, Chief of the Illinois Office to Prevent and End Homelessness, who talked about her work with 16 state agencies to implement a strategic plan to prevent and end homelessness for Illinois residents.

Thanks to our sponsors, the event was free and open to the public. We are grateful to all who were able to join us in-person at the event. If you could not join us that day, no worries! The full event was recorded. You can view here.

Our State of Homelessness and Affordable Housing annual events include a full program from sharing data and information about the state of homelessness and affordable housing in Washtenaw County, panel presentations by subject-matter experts, to sharing storytelling and videos. In 2023, we hosted speakers presenting about what the State of Michigan’s plans are on housing and homelessness to what’s happening with winter sheltering in Washtenaw County. In 2022, our first in-person event since the start of the pandemic, our event theme and speakers centered on health and housing.

Keynote speaker at our 2024 event was Christine Haley, Chief of the Illinois Office to Prevent and End Homelessness
