The Coalition for Re-envisioning Our Safety (CROS) is hosting a public forum to discuss the creation of an unarmed safety response team in Ann Arbor. Ann Arbor is joining the growing movement of communities, municipalities, and organizers who recognize the need for prioritizing and re-envisioning public safety.
Unarmed safety response teams deliver solutions to conflicts, harmful situations, and mental health crises without the threat of subject control tactics and without the threat of incarceration, offering creative solutions by identifying the right resource for the right need.
In this forum, CROS will introduce their plan for unarmed response in Ann Arbor, how unarmed response is different from co-response, and why the difference matters. Hear from national and local experts on public health, social work, and the need for unarmed response. Finally, Interim City Administrator Milton Dohoney will talk on how the city can partner with CROS to develop a care-based, life-affirming approach to unarmed response in Ann Arbor.
