Join ICPJ to learn more about Participatory Budgeting -- a tool to redirect resources to serve community vision & needs!
Interfaith Council for Peace & Justice (ICPJ) is working with other community activist on the best ways to redirect resources to best serve community vision & needs. This event is intended to bring together advocates of more participatory and democratic processes to learn more about the tool of Participatory Budgeting. Participatory budgeting (PB) is a democratic process in which community members decide how to spend part of a public budget. While not the only strategy to build democratic processes, we see this as a tool that can help us locally.
Panelists will provide an introduction to the concept & practices of Participatory Budgeting and will share grassroots organizing experiences.
Panelists will include:
Shimekia Nichols, Executive Director, Soulardarity
Ana Paula Pimentel Walker, Associate Professor, Urban and Regional Planning, Taubman College, UM
Anita Dos Santos, Advocacy Manager, Participatory Budgeting Project
Later on, participants will continue the conversations and dive deeper into strategies and organizing to redirect resources during another event, the 2024 Spring Connect & Act, Sunday, April 14th.
