In-person - Ann Arbor
Over the stretch of 100 days starting in late September and ending on January 23rd, the WHA participated in a community-driven challenge aimed at ending Veteran homelessness in Washtenaw County.
The result: By the end of the challenge 25 Veterans experiencing homelessness were permanently housed and, for the first time, the number of Veterans entering the county's homeless system of care during the month was zero.
The 100-Day Challenge, part of our community's work with the Built For Zero movement, was designed to bring community leaders, service providers, advocates, and other individuals together to accelerate progress on achieving an end to Veteran homelessness. These were our goals:
Identify barriers Veterans face when seeking housing, specifically through feedback from Veterans with lived experience, and help remove those barriers
Expand our community partnerships
Engage with landlords willing to provide safe and affordable housing for Veterans
Reduce the number of Veterans entering the homeless system through expansion of prevention and diversion services
The WHA publicized updates about the challenge in our December and November newsletters as well as gave an interview on WEMU as part of United Way for Southeastern Michigan's Washtenaw United series. Now we are joining our partners to invite members of the community to an upcoming debriefing about the 100-Day Challenge. We will share about the work achieved during the challenge and our goals moving forward!
